Archaeological/Cultural Resource Inventory
An archaeological/cultural resource inventory consists of a records search followed by a pedestrian survey and often subsurface investigations (shovel probes) to identify and document cultural resources within a project area or area of potential effects (APE). Our knowledge of the precontact and historic-era archaeological record in the regions we work in allows us to identify cultural materials accurately and thoroughly.
-
Monitoring
We are experienced in monitoring a project's construction phase to ensure known cultural resources are not destroyed in the process and to ensure the appropriate protocol is followed if inadvertent discoveries are encountered by working closely with Tribal entities and state and federal agencies.
-
GIS and Cartography
We rely on GNSS receivers capable of sub-meter accuracy to standardize our methods for collecting data that we incorporate into GIS software to produce project-specific maps and analyze spatial relationships. We are experienced in managing simple to complex datasets and creating efficient GIS workflows.

NRHP Evaluations and Testing
National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) evaluations, often completed by additional subsurface testing (if buried) of a documented cultural resource, require detailed documentation, consultation with Tribes and other interested parties, and a thorough understanding of applying NRHP criteria. Our staff is experienced in performing evaluations and works hard to use that experience to provide useful and complete evaluation recommendations to aid reviewing agencies in their determinations as we guide our clients through the regulatory process.

Effects Mitigation
If adverse effects to significant cultural resources cannot be avoided due to project design or other constraints, some form of mitigation must be implemented. The appropriate type of mitigation is ultimately decided by consulting parties, including the project-appropriate Tribes, State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO), federal agencies, state agencies, historical societies, and other entities. Our staff has experience carrying out a variety of mitigation efforts.
